Teletherapy for adults

I see adults who are struggling with anxiety or the fallout of trauma. For many, it interrupts their lives and impacts their relationships with loved ones.  Others have emotions that feel overwhelming and out of control, and may also have ADHD or identify as neurodivergent.  Some have experienced systemic injustice and oppression and others are working through developmental or intergenerational trauma .  Many have tried therapy before and it wasn’t the right time or the right fit, or now the time just feels right.

Our sessions focus on what is currently impacting you.  We talk about your values and what is important to you. We help you understand your patterns and experiences, how your emotions and anxiety work, and how your unique brain works. We explore how to approach life in a more helpful way for you.  This might involve learning new skills, bringing attention to and working on unlearning unhelpful patterns, and finding compassion for yourself along the way.  We may go deep, but we’ll also find space for levity and humor.  Humor is an important part of healing!  Sessions are fifty minutes and based around your therapy goals.

The first session is a little different since we’ll both be getting to know each other.  It’s a sixty-minute session and will be focused on learning more deeply what brings you to therapy and what your goals in therapy are.

In-person therapy for children

Anxiety shows in a lot of different ways in children. Some children start clinging to their caregiver rather than choosing to do fun things with their friends. Others have emotional outbursts that don’t quite make sense. Some children ask lots of worried questions and have a hard time not thinking about the thing they are worrying about. Sometimes when anxious, children will get overly upset after making a mistake or performing poorly at school, in a game, or during another activity.

Sessions are focused on getting to know your child and helping them get to know me and feel comfortable in therapy.  To build trust and comfort, we follow the same routine each fifty-minute session, adjusting each part of the routine to match therapy goals and what your child needs that day.  Play, art, and experiential learning are all part of my approach to working with children.

One important aspect of my approach is that I ask a caregiver to be in session most of time.  Children have a hard time applying these new skills all on their own from only one meeting a week, so a caregiver being present in session means that you can help your child apply these new skills throughout the week and your child can make progress more quickly in therapy.  I also find it helpful to have the occasional caregiver-only session to answer more in-depth questions and provide parenting strategies.

The first session is a little different.  It is a sixty-minute session with caregivers only so that I can learn more about what brings your child to therapy and what therapy goals are for your family.

Parental Consultation

No one teaches you how to be a parent.  And this can feel like the most important thing you’ve ever taken on.  Kids’ behaviors can be confusing, everyone is telling you different ways to parent, and your own emotions can feel so overwhelming sometimes that you respond in a way you don’t like.

Sessions are focused on building understanding and skills so you can parent consistently with your values. Together we will work to better understand your child’s behavior by putting it in the context of attachment needs and a brain-based understanding of emotion.  We will problem solve and introduce strategies relevant to you and your child’s unique needs.  It’s important to also make space for your own emotions coming up while parenting and discuss helpful emotion regulation strategies.  Aside from making parenting more joyful, this is helpful modeling for your children.

Like with therapy options above, the first session is a little different.  It’s a sixty-minute session focused on learning what your parenting strengths and challenges are and your goals for consultation.
